Four weeks of the NFL season are officially in the books, and reality has set in. Whether your roster is cruising at 4-0 or you’re battling injuries and bye weeks at 1-3, your team won’t manage itself. Championships aren’t won on draft nigh, they are won at 3:00 AM on Wednesday mornings when the waiver wire clears.

Week 5 brings our first major wave of bye weeks and high-profile injuries across the league. To help you navigate the chaos, we’ve broken down the top three waiver wire targets at every single position—complete with matchup analysis, usage notes, and actionable strategy.

Quarterbacks (QB)

Streaming the right matchup under center can outscore fringe QB1s every single week.

1. Kirk Cousins (LV at NE) - 35% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy

  • Priority Level: Streamer / Superflex Starter

  • The Lowdown: Las Vegas has leaned heavily on Cousins' arm over the last two weeks, generating consistent passing volume. Going up against a vulnerable Patriots pass defense, Cousins provides a high floor for managers navigating quarterback injuries or bye weeks.

2. Jacoby Brissett (ARI vs. DET) -48% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy

  • Priority Level: High-Floor Streamer

  • The Lowdown: Detroit’s high-scoring offense forces opponents to keep their foot on the gas, while their secondary has been giving up big chunks of fantasy points through the air. Brissett offers sneaky rushing equity and 35+ pass attempt upside in what projects as one of the highest-total games of the week.

3. C.J. Stroud (HOU at TEN) - 62% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy

  • Priority Level: Rebound Stash

  • The Lowdown: Dropped in shallow leagues after an uneven start, Stroud gets a pristine "get-right" divisional matchup against Tennessee. With Houston’s offensive line slowly finding its footing, Stroud should have time to push the ball downfield and push back toward QB1 conversation.

Running Backs (RB)

Running back depth is fantasy football gold, especially with mid-season attrition kicking into high gear.

1. Woody Marks (HOU vs TENN) - 53% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy

  • Priority Level: Must-Add / Top Overall Priority

  • The Lowdown: Marks continues to carve out a standalone pass-catching and change-of-pace role in Houston's backfield alongside David Montgomery. Having scored in Week 4 and pushing for a near-50% snap share, he brings immediate PPR flex viability into a favorable divisional matchup against the Titans, with massive weekly upside should the backfield touch distribution tip further in his favor.

2. Will Shipley (PHI vs. JAX – London) - 43% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy

  • Priority Level: High

  • The Lowdown: With Saquon Barkley banged up and Tank Bigsby sidelined on IR, Shipley is thrust directly into the spotlight. Philadelphia's ground game is historically one of the most efficient in football. While London games can bring weird game scripts, Shipley represents an instant plug-and-play volume option for zero-RB drafters or desperate managers.

3. Tyler Allgeier (ARI vs. DET) - 43% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy

  • Priority Level: Medium / High-Upside Stash

  • The Lowdown: Allgeier remains one of the premier backup-with-benefits options in fantasy. He consistently steals high-value short-yardage work and touches inside the 20-yard line. Even in a committee role, he offers a floor-play flex option, with league-winning upside should the primary back miss time.

Wide Receivers (WR)

Target volume and air yards dictate fantasy success on the perimeter. Here are three wideouts primed for expanded roles.

1. Keon Coleman (BUF at LAR) - 31% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy

  • Priority Level: High

  • The Lowdown: Buffalo’s high-octane offense had its receiver pecking order reshuffled following DJ Moore's re-aggravated shoulder ailment in Week 4. Coleman operated as Josh Allen’s primary downfield target, flashing elite jump-ball ability. Indoors at SoFi Stadium against a beatable Rams secondary, Coleman has instant WR2 upside.

2. KC Concepcion (CLE at NYJ) - 66% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy

  • Priority Level: Medium-High (PPR Priority)

  • The Lowdown: Concepcion’s snap count and target share have spiked sharply over the past fortnight. Commanding 17 targets over that stretch and pacing his team in route participation, he is transitioning from an intriguing gadget weapon to an everyday slot chain-mover. Snag him now before the full breakout box score arrives.

3. Dohnte Meyers (CIN at MIA) - 19% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy

  • Priority Level: Speculative Add

  • The Lowdown: Cincinnati enters Week 5 battered at receiver, with both Ja'Marr Chase (concussion) and Tee Higgins (adductor) nursing injuries. Meyers is in line for an enormous leap in snaps in a Joe Burrow-led pass attack. If Chase or Higgins sit, Meyers is a sneaky flex dart throw in a projected shootout in Miami.

Tight Ends (TE)

The tight end wasteland claims more fantasy teams every week. These three options bring actual weekly route involvement.

TE Brenton Strange remains a solid waiver pick up

1. Brenton Strange (JAX vs. PHI – London) - 31% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy

  • Priority Level: Top TE Add

  • The Lowdown: Strange was a revelation in Week 4, running routes on nearly 90% of dropbacks and dominating looks with a staggering 36.4% target share (7 catches for 95 yards). When a tight end earns volume like a bona fide WR1, you don't overthink it—bid aggressively.

2. Mike Gesicki (CIN at MIA) - 25% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy

  • Priority Level: Streamer / Revenge Game

  • The Lowdown: With Cincinnati's outside wideouts banged up, Burrow will likely look to the middle of the field early and often. Add in the classic "Revenge Game" storyline as Gesicki faces his former team in South Florida, and you have an easy plug-and-play streamer.

3. Pat Freiermuth (PIT vs. IND) - 15% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy

  • Priority Level: Low-End TE1 Floor

  • The Lowdown: "Muth" has quietly found the end zone twice in four weeks and remains a primary red-zone reads for Pittsburgh. He draws an Indianapolis defense that has struggled against athletic seam threats all year.

Defense & Special Teams (D/ST)

Never spend draft capital on defenses; stream them based on pressure rates and quarterback mistakes.

  1. Cleveland Browns (CLE at NYJ) - 25% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy: Cleveland's defensive front has registered at least three sacks and a takeaway in three straight games. The Jets have surrendered top-tier sack rates all season, making this a prime floor-and-ceiling spot.

  2. Chicago Bears (CHI at GB) - 43% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy: Chicago has surrendered just 28 total points over their last three contests while racking up sacks and turnovers. In a gritty rivalry match, the Bears D/ST should hold the line.

  3. Cincinnati Bengals (CLE at MIA) - 25% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy: One of the consensus top streaming targets of the week. Cincinnati ranks near the top of the league in sack rate (14 sacks through four weeks) and faces a reeling Miami offense that has yet to score more than 13 points in any contest this season. Expect heavy pressure, turnover opportunities, and a high fantasy floor.

Quick Waiver Wire Checklist for Week 5:

  • Check your IR slots: Move ruled-out players onto IR before waivers run so you have an extra open bench spot.

  • Prioritize volume over touchdowns: Kirk Cousins, Woody Marks and Brenton Strange are priority adds because their route participation and touch shares warrant immediate starts.

  • Plan for Week 6: If you have an empty bench spot, stash a backup RB or look ahead to next week’s streaming defense before they cost waiver priority.
